Ruben Nachtergaele
After finishing his studies in architecture in 1999, Ruben Nachtergaele specialised in sound and music and took on different roles doing so. From ‘musique concrète’ with the improv-trio Kapotski, over poppy electronics with Lewis in Heaven, to composition and ‘live electronics’ with the Boomfanfare. As producer and performer of electro-acoustic music for performing arts he worked with Ontroerend Goed, Hof van Eede,C.R.E.W., and many others. Het performed in venues like Kunstencentrum Vooruit (Ghent), Buda (Kortrijk) and Kaaitheater (Brussel), and on festivals like Wiener Festspiele, Nomad Istanbul and Etoiles Polaires in Rykjavik and Nuuk. For Nu Architects he realised some permanent audio interventions in C-mine Expeditie in Genk. As audio artist, Fuben Nachtergaele focusses on ‘field recordings’ and audio design. Central to this work is the attention to texture and the creation of imaginary worlds. Recent work includes ‘I hear You’, a multi-channel installation that explores the tensions between the simplicity of solo recordings and the multiplicity of combined sounds. And ‘Mud Stories’, a solo performance developed within the project ‘Borderline’ of Nick Steur. Through contact sounds produced by stethoscopes and the deprivation of sound he developed a highly individual and collective audio ritual. Ruben worked as Sound Designer with Dianne Weller on the Sound Theatre Performance ‘For Your Ears Only’ that premiered toured in Flanders in 2015/2016.
