werkplaats experimentele muziek en klankkunst
in residentie
13/05/2024 - 23/06/2024
As part of the residency, I intend to investigate sound phenomena that emerge due to different levels of amplification of voice-like fragments and subliminal sound experiences.

I aim to explore how speech or phonetic voice elements resonate and are reflected in different environments, inhabiting imaginary abstract spaces through the use of digital feedback synthesis and fragments of generative voice models.

My previous work has addressed hidden signals such as high and very low frequency ranges, as well as other inaudible sound phenomena related to the detection or perception limits of signals. At the moment I am interested in whether and how the technical implementation of speech synthesis and voice analysis in everyday electronic devices like cell phones, along with their advanced applications such as transcription and hidden search suggestions, may behave like ‘ghostly voice agents’.

Starting from the idea of subliminal experiences such as those found in Japanese ghost stories or the electronic voice phenomenon where people report hearing hidden messages in radio frequency recordings, I want to develop an experimental space that deals with these phenomena.

The proposed project also serves as a commentary on the development and integration of audio technology, encompassing its role both as a tracking and surveillance tool, as well as its application across areas such as AI, product-oriented user content, personalised commercial advertising, announcements – how information is shared and whom it is distributed with.
