Sound artist Kaffe Matthews is presenting her project ‘Sonic Bikes’ at Rits School of Arts.
A Sonic Bike is a musical instrument that plays locative music through two bike-mounted speakers made by the journey and speed at which the cyclist pedals. The cyclist therefore becomes the performer and the passers by the audience. Created by composer, sound artist Matthews, the sonic bike’s design has been evolving through a series of commissions since 2003 and through the Bicrophonic Research Institute (BRI) is enabling the sonic bike to become an instrument to be played by the cyclist. Sonic Bikes can also be networked, meaning that they can harmonize or transform their sound depending on their approximation to each other.
Coproduction with Rits/School of Arts.
Sonic Bikes Brussels will be realized in collaboration with La Monnaie/De Munt, FoAM, Cyclo, Cultureghem, The Bicrophonic Research Institute, a.o.
