Field recording the performance moment
During this residency I will work with dramaturg Sara Jansen and composer Oxana Omelchuck.
With Oxana I will research ways to compose for text and vocals within narrative propositions. We will track vocal qualities and ways of scoring for live text performance.
With Sara we will discuss the in-between public space of a head phone piece difference questioning the different relationships between the performer and the audience the dramaturgy of the proposed narratives.
also the various forms of detachment that occur when used stereophonic technique. The hearing is disconnected to the visual. It is an unusual experience as there is detachment of space, time and environment. The whole creates an uncanny effect. As a participant you have the feeling that the voice in your head, even in your body. The stereophonic effect is compelling and emotional at the same time, intimate yet spacious. It causes contradictions between ‘inside’ or intimate and confuse ‘outside’ or relational, object and subject, blurs the real and fictional image, empathetic and analytical appear in a different light, the role of performer and audience are unclear, spirit and body are confused … feels like a realtime movie.
The aural displacement is a physical metaphor for the empathy or subjectivity displacement.
