The Électro-Bricolage Ensemble is a workshop in which we will build electronic music instruments ourselves. It is for people who are curious about how things work and like to build things with their hands. The artist Darsha Hewitt invites participants to discover the basics of electronics and learn how to read a simple electronic circuit, identify electronic components and build sound generators (so called oscillators). The group will build an instrument for extraction of the most unexpected rhythmic patterns which can be played with(in) the collective. Everyone is welcome! Being part of the Ensemble does not require prior experience with electronics.

Darsha Hewitt (CA/DE) is an interdisciplinary artist that investigates the material politics of music and sound. She makes electromechanical sound installations, drawings, audio-visual works, how-to videos, sculptural installations and performative workshops that explore technological entanglements and their implications on humans and ecology. With a media archeological perspective she explores sound beyond its sonic parameters through deconstruction of discarded technology. Alongside reverse engineering, restoration and aesthetic experiments with music technology, she works with retired industry technicians to learn disappearing tacit knowledge that she integrates into studio research and shares within the art and DIY technology context.

In spring 2025, Q-O2 launches a series of three workshops on the intersection of sound art and technological crafting taking place at Vaartkapoen in Molenbeek. Three sessions, lead by artists Claire Williams, Darsha Hewitt and Maryia Kamarova, encourage playful engagement with material through hands-on experimentation with electronics, sensory exploration, textile hacking and play. The workshops are open to everyone, no prior knowledge is required — just bring your curiosity and a willingness to experiment.
