Second Sundays #56: Mona Brico
12/01/2025 - 17h (doors 16h30) - free

Mona (aka Mona Brico) has been a traveling organizer and programmer in Brussels since 2012, specializing in experimental music.

Emerging from the creative depths of Barlok (occupied from 2011 to 2017), Mona sharpened her auditory sensibilities at a KKnul concert at Magasin 4 and during a Bruitisme holiday camp in Nancy in 2015. Nurtured within the walls of La Senne (occupied from 2015 to 2020), she took her first steps as a curator, enjoying genuine freedom for three years. What began as a playful venture into organizing and programming evolved into a deep passion and commitment.  With a perpetually shifting set of keys, Mona now moves fluidly through Brussels’ alternative venues, curating radical and uncompromising lineups.

Completely self-taught in musicology, she relies solely on her instincts, often disregarding technicalities and virtuosity. This approach is reflected in her occasionally messed-up but fully unapologetic discourse. Her aesthetic preferences have evolved over time, yet a common thread remains: a focus on intrusion, amplitude, intensity, and tension.

In recent years, she shared a sound system named Dolores with D’incise, joined the team at the TTT label, and been entrusted with programming the Haunted Folklore series at Recyclart.

Second Sundays is a monthly series initiated by Q-O2. Each session a new guest is invited to share an insight into their own listening, playing and speaking about a selection of sound and music that is important to their thinking or practice. The sessions try to put value on listening to recorded music in a social setting as a space for discussion. Each session is paired with a cocktail-of-the-month, as decided by the invited guest.
