Paper Trail Exploring an Alternative to the Printed Score
The objective of the Singh-Chang residency is to shift the focus of investigation from sounds to the score itself, and experiment with alternative notation formats.
* Print-based scores are the dominant form of communication between composer and performer. Is this because it is the most effective means of communication between composer and performer?
* What other non-print-based forms can scores assume? Oral, performance, video, audio, taste and so on?
* Does a score’s media intrinsically affect the sonic outcome of a composition?
* To what extent, if at all, do different types of non-paper-based scores allow for more direct methods of communication between composer and performer?
