Mechanical Sound Object (working title)
The intention behind that project was to experiment with a mechanical approach of music-making beside exploring some of the synthesis techniques (granulation, spectral resynthesis, etc.). At the beginning it was inspired by Aphex Twin’s works (Druqks & Computer Controlled Acoutsic Instruments, both using motor-played acoustic instruments and synthesis techniques) along with musique concrète and electro-acoustic music in general.
The current set-up is a hand-built mechanical instrument, played with motors, controlled and live-processed by a modular system. The instrument consists of a resonator, 4 motor-playable strings, 4 groups of sympathetic or performer-playable strings, 4-piece tuned brass chimes, 4 mobile motors, and 4 in-built sustainers.
The instrument has its own diffusion set up, consisting of two dml and one steel-plate horizontal speakers (the sub woofer is in progress…).
Pavel will showcase 3 pieces which are not intended at this point to be seen as a completed artistic work, but as an exploration of the possibilities of such a set up.
