Stijn Dickel
Stijn Dickel (born in 1974) studied philosophy (UGent) and mixed media (DKO). After his studies, he worked with Jan Fabre as musician / performer for the dance production Je Suis Sang for four years. He has since worked for different other theatre and dance productions (fABULEUS, Sermoen, Campo, Hel’s Kitchen, Ben Benaouisse, …), joined improvisational musical temporary ensembles (Köhn, Hi Shi Wah Killers, Gerrit Valckenaers, …) and played in the music collective Kaboom Karavan of Bram Bosteels for three years. Stijn is also artistic director of Aifoon vzw, an educational, nomadic workplace initiative, centered around the art of listening.
In his solo work, Stijn focuses on the relationship between listening and movement / compassion. By combining sound art with performance, he homes in on both conscious and unconscious listening. In the framework of what he coins listening art, he has developed a listening walk, and created in Marrakesh the project on AudioHacking. In both examples, he explores how he can subliminally influence listening by appealing to the physical, spatial and memory dimension within people's listening attitude.
