In the creation of my ‘podcast/Hörspiel’ for the Distractfold Ensemble last year using recorded sounds, musical sketches and text, I realised the potential of joining all the disparate elements of my musical practice into a cohesive and obliquely entertaining whole. I would like to use the residency to develop an event which focuses on the interaction of listening. As Robert Bresson wrote, “An old thing becomes new if you detach it from what usually surrounds it”. I want to make an audience laugh, cry, and shout in an event where I will sing, speak, ask questions, and listen, falling somewhere in between concert, installation, listening space and forum. It is always refreshing to see people listen, especially on stage. Wouldn’t it be great to create a space to listen, to ponder, and to encourage audiences to imagine the world from a different perspective, through sound suggestion?
