For its 5th edition, Second Sundays invites the Brussels-based, Venezuelan artist Sabrina Montiel-Soto to present a session based on her research findings working through the audio and film archive of the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Tervuren: a richly researched listening session on the complexities and contradictions of colonialism and representation.
The artist writes “The relationship between Venezuela and Africa probably dates back to the end of the 16th century via the slave trade during Christopher Columbus’ third voyage to India. Back to essentials things, sound, rhythm and measure. We are the debris, the human being is made of a memory constructed by multilayer of stories, associations, origins and identities. The project is based on a scenario of natural and fragmented histories between Central Africa and Venezuela.”
