In 2018, Q-O2 will initiate a new monthly series of listening sessions by invited guests. Each session a new guest is invited to share an insight into their own listening, playing and speaking about a selection of sound and music that is important to their thinking or practice. The series takes place on the second Sunday of every month, in a relaxed atmosphere. Each session is paired with a cocktail-of-the-month, as decided by the invited guest.
For the first session, on January 14, Henry Andersen proposes a screening of Perfect Lives, the 1982 “Opera for TV” of Robert Ashley. It was a radical rethinking of how the operatic form might survive in the age of fast-food, broadcast television, supermarkets, and the American corn-belt. Originally designed to be broadcast in half and hour episodes, Perfect Lives will here be screened in its entirety (2 hours, 52 minutes) with the public free to come and go as they please. Cocktail of the month: cracked-pepper gin and tonic.
