workspace for experimental music and sound art
30/01/2017 - 25/02/2017

During the stay at Q-O2 Romy Rüegger will work on a script and a performance for one or several performers, projections, walls and subwoofer, that explores digital presets and how they shape the recordings and texts through which we speak – as a tool to intervene into the gendered reproduction of normed and normative understandings and readings of voice tones and the authorities assigned to them. Along a close reading of I am the wall where will you be main frequencies – as red by Pat Parker for a recording and journeys to the Africa Museum in Tervuren (and other imaginary places) the script will enfold along the question of how colonial power relations and the racialization of voice tones intersect with the construction of genders and gender binaries.

The script and the performance will be developed in a process of research, recording and writing, in which the materials are shaping each other in a process of mutually generated feedback loops and verbal rhythm patterns and lead to a montage that works with possible speaking positions in the space, considering the position of the performers, speakers and architectonical elements as much as the positions the listeners might chose.

This work evolves in continuation of the performance „It sounds like metal“ that Romy Rüegger developed for the festival the other the self at Q-O2.
