Guitarconcert & CD release.
Primož Sukič has lately been fascinated by DJ sets. Like an improviser will choose which note to play next, a DJ combines pieces by others, he tweaks them, and synchronizes them to the point where terms like identity or ownership are not longer recognizable or important. This kind of approach mirrors our society today and – in a way – functions better than protocols in concert halls filled with long lists of pieces performed one after the other while the audience is politely applauding in between. Therefore Primož Sukič decided to remix/recycle musical material from his album “Splitting” and to combine it with improvisations, and guitar compositions.
Kobe Van Cauwenberghe (guitar) and Johan Vandermaelen (electronics) brings the classic experimental studio-albums “No Pussyfooting” and “Evening Star” by Brian Eno and Robert Fripp back to live. In these pre-ambient albums from the early 1970s Brian Eno blends his tape-loop experiments with Robert Fripp’s rock guitar, creating unique layered soundscapes. Two specific pieces from both albums will be presented: “The Heavenly Music Corporation” (A-side of “No Pussyfooting”) and “An Index of Metals” (B-side of “Evening Star”). Both pieces, each taking up an entire side of an LP, beautifully explore the rich sound textures of the electric guitar in combination with tape-loops. Using contemporary technology in combination with the original “frippertronics” set-up of two reel-to-reel tape-recorders, this project aims at restoring these gems of experimental repertoire, originally created in the studio, and bringing them back to the stage.
