Marialena Marouda & Oceanographies Institute

Marialena Marouda (1982, Greece) works in the fields of performance art and choreography. She studied philosophy and visual arts at Columbia University in New York, USA and continued her studies at the Institute for Applied Theater Studies at the University of Giessen, Germany. In May 2018 she completed the program for artistic research Advanced Performance and Scenography Studies (a.pass) in Brussels, Belgium.
Marialena‘s work is in situ and research based. She is developing institutions that focus on a performative and affective knowledge of the world we inhabit. Her current work Oceanographies Institute is coproduced by C-Takt, nadine, and Kaap and is supported by BUDA, Q-O2, workspacebrussels and the Region of Brussels.
Former works include Poetry Exercises: an Archive of (un)familiar Things (2016), a performative archive presented within the Frankfurt City Archive during the site specific festival Implantieren2016, Walking in the City: on the Poetics of Space, presented at the 2013 Athens Biennial and Walking Exercises (2011-13), which premiered in the Mousonturm in Frankfurt. She has collaborated with the choreographic collectives MAMAZA and deufert+plischke and with the choreographer Martin Nachbar. She is currently collaborating with choreographer Fabrice Mazliah in the Manufactured Series, a series of ten duets each between a human performer and a hand-crafted object.

Charlie Usher is a Brussels based composer working with long duration, writing for live instruments, field recording, and static and rotary speaker installations.

Elpida Orfanidou (b. 1981, Berlin) is a Greek choreographer and performer based between Berlin and Athens. She studied Dance first in Athens in parallel to her Piano and Pharmacology Degree. She continued her dance studies in Arnhem, Montpellier and London. For her studies abroad she received the Greek State Scholarship. In 2009 she was the Greek recipient of DanceWeb scholarship in Impulstanz festival in Vienna. She creates works alone or in collaboration with other artists like with Hermann Heisig for the duet “ UNITED STATES ”, Juan Perno for the project ” ELPID’ARC “, Alma Toaspern for the duet ” ZEITFISCHEN “. Her works have been presented in frames and places around the world like Tanz im August, HAU Theatre, Sophiensaele, Athens Festival, Onassis Cultural Center Athens, Tanzquartier Wien, Teatar i TD Zagreb, La Casa Encendida Madrid, Supercell Festival Brisbane. As a performer Elpida has worked a.o. with Fabrice Mazliah, Daniel Wittkopp, Pieter Ampe, Meg Stuart, Tim Etchells, Vlatka Horvat, Gui Garrido. As an artistic collaborator she has worked with Ioannis Mandafounis & May Zarhy. In 2014 she started a collaboration with Simone Truong and a group of four other female choreographers – Anna Massoni, Adina Secretan, Eilit Marom – for the collective project ” (TO) COME AND SEE” which premiered in 2016 in Gessnerallee / Zurich and toured in Switzerland, France, Australia, Israel, Holland. In 2017 Elpida created the project PHARMACIST or BALLOONIST , a dance and herbs laboratory where she invited a number of guest artists to engage in diverse ways. The project was supported by Hauptstadtkulturfonds and Onassis Cultural Center Athens. In 2019 with the Recherchestipendium of the Berlin Senat, PoB expanded to a broader research on the encounter of performance art with the traditions of herbal healing in Mexico. At the moment Elpida is conducting research on the intersection of ethnography, traditional singing and somatics.
