residency
18/02/2019 - 09/03/2019

For the Q-O2 residency Ioana Mândrescu will develop a series of acousmatic intermezzi. In their  final form, these intermezzi will serve as transitions between pieces of a contemporary classic recital performed by the Muela-Mândrescu flute and piano duo. They will be especially designed for a specific set of works by Pierre Boulez, Jonathan Harvey, Luciano Berio and Salvatore Sciarrino.
It is an experiment in expanding the stage setup and in finding auditory bridges between distinct moments in the evolution of music in the past seventy years. The final goal is to create a seamless auditory experience that positions the public not only in front of the stage but also in the centre of sonic events. The well established position of the performers in relation to their public will be blurred by placing the sound sources not only in front but around and behind the listeners, jumping between a typical stage setup and a listener centred surround sound setup.

Transitions grew out of the need of understanding the rapid and fascinating transformations that took place in the art world in the 20th and 21st centuries. It is a research into the realm of composition and modern technologies, that has become vital to present day performers. This project was initiated by the flute and piano Muela-Mândrescu duo and will be presented during a series of concerts in the future.
