Gladys Garcia lives and works in Brussels and she is Che Vuoi, a solo musical project.
She’s been working for the past year on ‘Night Songs’, a series of songs composed of modular and analog synthesizers as well as texts. She thinks of these melodies and songs as nocturnal landscapes out of which comforting or threatening images might emerge, to create a sort of personal folklore. During the residency at Q-O2 she will open up the project to a more collaborative approach in order to re-imagine ‘Night Songs’ as a chamber music ensemble in a very free and amateur manner. This type of ensemble is based on the ‘horizontality’ of the collaboration. As the name suggests, chamber music is thought in opposition to grand orchestras and it adapts to small spaces, like those in a house for example. The musical performance is experienced more intimately in this domestic setting and she would like to expand this idea of domesticity in relation to the chamber music groups to echo with the strange familiarity that she looks for in ‘Night Songs’.
