By exploring our relationship to objects, surprising connections emerge. In this workshop, the artist Maryia Kamarova invites participants to engage with everyday objects through touch, movement, and sound recordings. Beginning with the things that surround us, we will “listen” to them by feeling their textures, and uncovering layers of their histories. We will experiment with different ways to share their stories in relation to our memories — using voice recordings and the playful language of performance. This workshop is an invitation to communicate beyond words, using objects as bridges between people and play as a form of a dialogue. Everyone is invited, no prior experience with performance or recording is needed. The workshop was developed in collaboration with PYL collective.

Maryia Kamarova is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice is situated on the borders of performing arts, scenography, sound and installation art. She is interested in creating spatial settings that foster a sense of curiosity and attention toward everydayness. By staging and repurposing commonplace objects and technology, her works emphasize creative capacities of the non-human world. Maryia approaches sound as a time-based medium, drawing inputs from collaborations with things, environments and other people. She develops autonomous objects, assembling found materials with analogue electronics. Taking on a role of facilitator, she then lets them temporarily inhabit the sites of performances and installations.

In spring 2025, Q-O2 launches a series of three workshops on the intersection of sound art and technological crafting taking place at Vaartkapoen in Molenbeek. Three sessions, lead by artists Claire Williams, Darsha Hewitt and Maryia Kamarova, encourage playful engagement with material through hands-on experimentation with electronics, sensory exploration, textile hacking and play. The workshops are open to everyone, no prior knowledge is required — just bring your curiosity and a willingness to experiment.
