>>> One motivation for the exploration of the physical properties of material was a human wish to experience a non-human world. Rediscovering a reality, extending, and transforming its limits has become common practice in artistic contexts in the last decades. While manual labor and tactile materials may lend an artwork a strong visual aspect, there is a great impact of sensual, immaterial objects and phenomena, such as chemical reactions, resonances, magnetism, and other manifestations of physical forces. Here, sound serves as an intermediary connecting ‘real’ and ‘sensual’ objects. It becomes a specific tool for an indirect non-linear animation of matters.

Animated Matter is a collaboration between Q-O2 and Overtoon. In the afternoon, Overtoon will open their doors for open studios presenting works (-in-progress) and talks by artists such as Christoph De Boeck, Aernoudt Jacobs and Clarice Calvo-Pinsolle.
The evening will continue with the concert in Q-O2, where Maria Komarova will present 555 bugs—a sound performance with DIY electronics and found objects, developed in Overtoon workspace— and Clarice Calvo-Pinsolle (aka Lamina) will create an immersive soundscape using of electromagnetic and field recordings.
