Anima Animus
11/10/2021 - 07/11/2021

Anima Animus is a vocal duo composed by musicians and sound artists Claire Serres and Delphine Dora. Their meeting was born from a common practice, that of voice as a vehicle of exploration between interiority and exteriority, voice as energy aspects and metamorphosis. Our first piece was improvised and recorded in a church during the summer of 2020, and have been performed at the Meakusma festival in Belgium and Ars Electronica in France.

At the origin of this project, there is the desire to question the voice in all its polarities, whether they are symbolic, sensitive or political. From breath to cry, from speaking to singing, from inspiration to exhalation, our voices and bodies invest relationships between masculine/feminine, human/non-human, light/shadow, absence/presence.

Our approach is contextual that exists in contact with the place we occupy, that relates to the present resonances. We seek the immanence of the moment through active listening. The voice expresses itself according to the movements of our bodies, like a sound choreography, our movements have a direct impact on the intention and the sound of our voices. We also share similar interests for feminism issues, mythology, deep psychology, spirituality and alchemy.

For this residency at Q-02, we intend to imagine a sound oracle, a project that explore several archetypes re-invented by ourselves, which would give rise to ritournels with multiple voices and sounds and instruments, in vibration with the public. We will install these musical pieces in the space, activated by our bodies and our voices and setting up with the help of machines and speakers, light and shadow. Through sound, film, drawings, imagery, magical objects, our project will become both sound/visual installation and performance.
