Aela Royer workshop : Vocal Lab
21/08/2020 - 15h - 19h

In this workshop, we will work the voice through the image of a synthesizer progressively shaping a simple tone into a complex abstract sound.

Here the body will reveals to be a highly technological object. We will use somatic technics and body movements to approach the vocalic system as a harmonizer, the consonants as ADSR envelop, the pitch as a generator and so on, until our way to conceive and listen to voice finally changes to open new directions in vocal experimentations.

Effects such as revers, slow down, fast up, cut, repeat and filter will become scores for abstract, repetitive and meditative group composition.

The structure of the workshop will imply sharing of technical tools, guided self exploration through improvisation and group composition. It is a laboratory to deepen our relation to voice, displace our conception of singing and seek for minimal and abstract aesthetic usually attributed to electro-acoustic music.

This workshop is connected to Aela’s research residency.

Experience in voice and body practices is recommended but not mandatory.
