Adomas Palekas will present two works: a live performance for rewilded electronics and a collection of microbial records from sonic locales across the city of Brussels. Both works inquire into the intersections between sound culture, electronic technologies, and our biophysical environment—microorganisms, water and its chemical species, winds, heat transfers, and other elements.

His ongoing research questions the material boundaries of electronics and searches for cracks through which to ‘contaminate’ the inherently anthropocentric domain of sound culture. Adomas explores sound practices that are inclusive of and attentive to our biotic and abiotic environments—non-sterile practices that invite the environment not as an extractivist resource, but as a force that ‘contaminates’ and reshapes functionality from within. With a focus on extended sound circuits, non-human listeners, and other elemental reciprocities, Adomas invites us to reconsider the growing divide between nature and technology, and to imagine how sound and listening might serve as a bridging medium in this context.
