residency
13/05/2024 - 16/06/2024

Over the recent years, Franziska Windisch has worked on performative settings in which participants engage in movement, listening, and sound making in outdoor spaces, often accompanied by selected text or sound fragments. Some of these works were based on individual scores for each performer with an openness for interaction. During the residency at Q-O2 she wants to focus on this particular aspect and develop a performance concept around “diffractive” scores, that unlike linear notations, function more like algorithms; mapping points in a network or field through which performers navigate, while encountering instructions, texts, or sounds along their way. By means of individualised score elements that can fall together in unforeseen ways, it is the perception and attention of the individual participants, their listening and their active participation in response, that give shape to the evolving situation. Consequently, the resulting performances become multi-perspective events, in which the performers have different experiences throughout their individual trajectories.

The residency will be dedicated to experiment with the possibilities of diffractive scores and develop participatory sound performances for different locations and spaces in conversation with groups of invited participants during open lab sessions.
