My installations are an interweaving of polyphonic singing, tradition, sound installations, graphic scores and spatialisation. Sound sculptures based on polyphonic vocal songs composed, recorded and sung by myself. Polyphonic compositions with separately recorded voices.  The compositions are on the one hand an interaction between maqams (the micro tonal harmonic system for structuring musical compositions in classical Arabic, Persian, Ottoman, … music) and Western musical harmonies. From this meeting between different singing styles and traditions, I distill a personal and a hybrid form of polyphonic chants.

 
The vocal lines are then played automatically through multiple speakers. The loudspeakers are placed strategically and geometrically in the space. Each speaker will transmit 1 or 2 voices.  The sound system causes the audience to be in a subtle state of motion. A search for a position in space that can galvanize the harmony between the voices.  The graphic scores are part of the exhibited installations.

 
These sound installations frame within a broad artistic and multidisciplinary research grafted on exploring and crossing the boundaries between visual and sound art. And a research into the historicity and symbolism of polyphonic and heterophonic vocal art in the Arab world and Western Europe.
