Veronika Mayer
Veronika Mayer (1977) is a freelance Austrian composer, musician and sound artist living in Vienna. Her works include instrumental and electroacoustic compositions, sound installations and performances with live electronics. She is active as electronic improviser, performing solo and in different collaborations, as well with visual artists. Pure sounds, natural given phenomena and material are the basis for her work, always emphasizing hardly perceptible elements, giving it a reduced but essential form and very clear structures, following the characteristics and inner behaviour of the sound itself. In her electronic performances and instrumental works she explores the continuous evolvement and expansion of single grains of sound. Focusing on the striking results of very smooth and minimal changes in sound modulation, she is observing the slightest differences and variations during these processes of manipulation. Her works have been presented at various festivals for contemporary and experimental music and soundart in Austria, Argentina, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Great Britain, Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, Slovakia, Switzerland, USA. She received commissions by Wien Modern, Jeunesse Wien, ÖGZM, Ensemble Reconsil, Ensemble Platypus, Hörstadt, e_may/association LAUT, The International Rosario Marciano Piano Competition, amongst others. In 2011 she received the Scholarship for Young Artists by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Arts and Culture, 2007 the Theodor - Körner Award for Sciences and Art. Veronika Mayer studied electroacoustic music with Germán Toro-Pérez and Karlheinz Essl, composition with Detlev Müller-Siemens and classical piano with Jochen Köhler at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. She is a member of the Austrian network snim – spontaneous network for improvised music.
