Lia Garcia
Lia Garcia is a feminist artist and transgender woman from Mexico City, co- founder of the Network of Mexico Trans Youth, a feminist collective that makes visible to young trans people and ways they conduct their transits gender in Mexico City. In this network she works with artistic practices to communicate transgender topics in different ways in public spaces. Her artistic interests are focused on making her own gender transition a space of affective communication with her social context and a proposal for social transformation through affectivity, ritual and celebration as political actions of public intervention. Her current research Project “Skin feminism: Gender transition as an affective, pedagogical, collective experience” is a proposal that analyses the p e r f o r m a n c e a s a r a d i c a l p e d a g o g y o f transformation that transcends the museum space and takes streets, schools and spaces of complexity to intervene them and build other realities and forms of communication. She wants to analyse the body as a pedagogical place where a lot of reflections starts, for example with the gaze in the public space to the body and emotions and feelings that it produce. Another important thing is the Crossings between pedagogy and art and the ways in which you can build artistic spaces where personal experience is the protagonist of artistic practices.
