Karin Bijsterveld
Karin Bijsterveld (*1961) is historian and professor in the Department of Technology and Society Studies, Universiteit Maastricht/The Netherlands. Currently she is preparing volume 5 of the Sound Studies Bookseries: Soundscapes of the Urban Past. She coordinates several research projects at the crossroads of Science and Technology Studies and Sound Studies (funded by The Netherlands' Organisation for Scientific Research NWO) e.g. Sonic Skills: Sound and Listening in Science, Technology and Medicine, 1920s-now. Recently she edited The Oxford Handbook of Sound Studies together with Trevor Pinch and she is member of the research network Sound in Media Culture (funded by the German Research Foundation DFG)
