Elizabeth Dobson
Elizabeth teaches modules in sonic arts, electronica, sound design, music for film, and empirical research for musicians, and supervises postgraduates at The University of Huddersfield. On completing a Ph.D. on co-creative practice in undergraduate computer music composition (with the Open University), she set up various projects fostering learner confidence through collaborative creating. In 2015 Elizabeth co-founded the Yorkshire Sound Women Network; now a community interest company supporting music technology learning and career opportunities for girls and women. Interested in the experience of other feminist music technology organisations, Liz interviewed five women leading non-profits across North America. These conversations form the basis of her book chapter on Digital Audio Ecofeminism. So far in 2019 Liz has performed Eurorack + Ableton as part of Female Laptop Orchestra at SARC, participated in Leon Trimble;s Synth room for the West Midlands Synth Network, and delivered a talk/performance on her work at the Sonic Arts Network. In the autumn, Liz will be delivering a Tarek Atoui inspired family sound workshop for The West Yorkshire Sculpture Park, and delivering a guest talk on inclusion, learning and agency within music technology education, for Women Nordic Music Technology (WoNoMute). This talk will be live streamed from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Oslo: wonomute.no Personal website: drlizdobson.com Yorkshire Sound Women Network: yorkshiresoundwomen.com
