Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh
Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh is a viola player based in Glasgow. Her practice aims to push the conceived boundaries of the viola as an instrument of acoustic classical origin through sound manipulation, distortion and multi-genre influences. An education in jazz and early musics informs her approach as well as her many years as a collaborator in experimental music performance. She has performed with Josephine Foster, Woven Skull, Circuit des Yeux, Cian Nugent & the Cosmos, Fritz Welch, David Lacey, Aonghus McEvoy, Rhodri Davies and Alasdair Roberts amongst others. Recent projects include performing works by activist/composer Cornelius Cardew as part of the Aonghus McEvoy Ensemble and a commissioned work for the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and gamelan musicians entitled New Mountain, Reaching Plane performed at Tectonics Festival, Glasgow 2022. She has released two recordings of solo music – Oreing (Fort Evil Fruit 2017) and The Rounds (KRUT 2021).
