The music of free-playing ensemble RAZEN constitutes a hybrid of energy-driven psychedelica and unadorned experiment in tactile soundscaping. Fascinated by the mordant and frantic timbral expressiveness of certain ethnic instruments such as santoor and bagpipes, RAZEN attempts to carve out their own niche in the world of electro-acoustic improvisation. At the same time, the ensemble wants to broaden the possibilities and associations of these instruments.
