residency
15/04/2018 - 15/06/2018

Since 1998, BolwerK is a moniker of Antwerp based activist and performer Marthe Van Dessel; developed to explore software and hardware based thinking as strategies for activism. She creates interfaces, devices, & protocols to investigate questions around the commons and collective identities. For the Interfaces residency, she proposes CQ CQ – a continuation and implementation of PAN PAN PAN; a code used in maritime and aeronautic transport for spreading urgent messages. The project is a call for understanding the radio-spectrum as a public space within which to act. Over a series of open labs, BolwerK will develop and grow piezo electric crystals and attempt to broadcast their sounds through DIY radio antennas.

In collaboration with W-O-L-K-E, Nadine, and Constant. In the framework of the Interfaces project, co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
