Vibro-Bodies (working title)

Ines’s interest lies in the narratives and potential of low frequencies and vibrations, especially in the relationship of the geological and the body, and where the body becomes itself a territory of trembling. For the research residency she mainly would like to put focus on the positive, constructive properties of vibrations. Having a closer look at vibroscapes and following the hypothesis that humans once had a more pronounced, nuanced vibrotactile sensitivity, circling around the following questions in a speculative way, (how) do we receive (and radiate?) vibrations? What kind of effects have vibrations and low-frequencies on our own bodies? And do vibrations have transformative power? Working with physicality of sound, and with the intention, intuition and sensitive knowledge of their fascia practice*, Ines would like to explore different settings with an experimental, experiental, somatic-sonic approach.

*A holistic, manual (therapy-) technique addressing all connective tissues. It’s a gentle, manual technique that involves a soft touch with the hands and is characterised by attentive listening, patience and the power of slowness.

Ines Marita Schaerer (she/they) is a multidisciplinary artist and fascia practitioner based in Brussels. Their work spans across poetry, performance, sound art and experimental music. Through writing and voicing, Ines’s work attempts at embodying words and wording the body, sensing words, and wording senses. With speculations and imaginings, they want to test interdependencies and interconnections with other beings, entities and environments. They are particularly interested in sensibility and vulnerability as constitutive forces. This practice is derived from somatic research, informed by the given context, permeable for various forms of knowledge, nourished and driven by thinkers, co-thinkers, collaborators, and allies.

Ines currently attends the PiP Programme at the Institute for Postnatural Studies. They hold an MA in Art Practice from the DAI, Dutch Art Institute (2019), and have joined programmes such as Sound Arguments at the Orpheus Institute in Ghent (2025). They have completed residencies at, among others, the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris (2024), Dampfzentrale Bern (2024), Morpho, Antwerp (2023), and Overtoon, Brussels (2021). They have participated in group exhibitions including the Biennale Bregaglia Bondo (2024), Open Studios organized by the Centre Culturel Suisse, Paris (2024), Seasonal Neighbours at Z33, Hasselt (2022), and Stadtgalerie Bern (2017). They are part of the collective Withing and have collaborated, among others, with Caroline Profanter, SRTN, and Francesco Fonassi.

One of her main projects, +41 (0)800 00 12 16 – a voice message project – is as an experimental platform for poetic pieces and voice based works (www.0800001216.ch)
