residency
06/01/2025 - 09/02/2025

Throughout Claire Williams’s residency, research will be conducted to create a visible and non-visible interface of sensing and dowsing apparatus to receive and amplify discrete energies such as electromagnetism, occult radio oscillations, para communications, and ethereal waves from haunted circuits to cosmic signals.

A multichannel system will be constructed to invite these unfiltered, weak energies to channel through cobwebs of electrons, cables, circuits, and digital signals to mix, resonate, and modulate with one another, offering a live performance of the unheard, acoustic weird, and non-ordinary energies. This will borrow and reactivate domestic tactics of mediumistic séances of the mid-19th century and parapsychological, occult, and strange devices from lost archives, such as radionics, EVP’s, ghost detectors, celestial telegraphy, and body pendulums. This performance will attempt to find ways to work with unpredictable or unstable energies and investigate auditory and sensory perceptions or hallucinations.

The artworks of Claire Williams take the form of woven antennas, glass sculptures filled with plasma or devices that sense the invisible. Data of radio telescopes and scanners materialise themselves in knitted stitches, sound vibrations or through luminous plasma. She sculpts her electronic components to make visible the electromagnetic movements from the cosmos, through our magnetosphere, to radio waves that cross our terrestrial environment or the ones emanating from our bodies and psychic activity. She is currently exploring in a duo « The Æthers » which collects and reactivate practices of the invisible found in the archives of experimental and occult sciences of the 19th and 20th century.
