Het braakliggend terrein langs het Westelijk ringspoor van de spoorlijn L28 maakte lange tijd geen deel uit van Brusselse stadsplanningsprocessen. Met haar natuurlijke, historische en ecologische rijdkom is dit gebied echter een ideaal onderzoeksobject in de context van urban sound design. Het gaat daarbij om de omgeving van de spoorlijn L28 op het grondgebied van de gemeenten Anderlecht en Sint-Jans-Molenbeek met o.a. de site van het Weststation, de metro-/busstelplaats ‘Jacques Brel’, het Kanaal en het gewestelijk groene netwerk als belangrijke projecten voor de stedelijke ontwikkeling de komende jaren.

Vier workshops verkennen de relatie tussen het klankbeeld en landschap van het gebied. Aan de hand van theoretisch soundscape onderzoek en inzichten van Murray Schafer, CRESSON, Steve Goodman of Detroit Techno en methodes uit de akoestische ecologie, onderzoeken we de componenten die het klankbeeld rond L28 vormgeven. Door luisterervaringen en reflecties op basis van site-specific performances, een geluidskaart of stedelijke geluidswandeling analyseren we de aard van het gebied. In dialoog met experts uit het veld van field recording, akoestische ecologie en stedenbouw denken we na over hoe de huidige geluidsomgeving op een participatieve manier geoptimaliseerd kan worden.

De studio is gepland op twee niveaus: de voormiddagssessies bieden gelegenheid voor talks en discussie over onderwerpen die verband houden met de relatie tussen klank en stedenbouw. Tijdens de namiddagen zijn er praktische workshops on-site, die tot een voorstel voor de site zullen leiden.

The sonic geography of the site and the relation between the sonic environment and the urban space.
Introduction to field recording – recording techniques
