This workshop is directed to composers and musicians who are interested in reflecting their mutual creative exchange and collaboration. How can the musician nourish the inspiration and knowledge of the composer about the instrumentation and finally be the megaphone of his imagination? What is the value of such an intense exchange if it is considered to be two-directional?
We will approach these questions while talking about our own work as a duo for harpsichord and percussion, starting with a compact historical overview on music that has been written for harpsichord since its rediscovery in the beginning of the 20th century. Then we will zoom in on the few pieces written for harpsichord and percussion, while listening to some recordings.
Finally, we will discuss the working together with young composers of today, discovering our own sounds and language, includingthe instrumentatium which is partly self-built. We have a look on and a listen to some of the pieces that have been written for us.
Finally we invite the participants to discover the possibilities of applying extended techniques on the harpsichord and to search together for unexpected sounds in combination with the rich colors offered by the percussion-universe.
The day finishes with a concert at 18h.
