Laurie Anderson lends her voice to narrate the epic of electronic music through the journey of women musicians, pioneers in their fields. The film is simple in style, but with a wealth of astonishing archive material, and manages to build a stimulating narrative and raise pertinent questions with a certain finesse. This series of portraits offers a parallel history of 20th century music by evoking the evolution of electric and electronic instrumentation (Theremin, synthesizers, etc.), as well as that of production and technology leading to computers and “bedroom producers”. This is an opportunity to dive into beautiful moments in the company of well-known figures such as Wendy Carlos or Eliane Radigue and to see at work or to discover musicians such as Clara Rockmore, Daphne Oram, Bebe Barron, Delia Derbyshire, Maryanne Amacher, Pauline Oliveros, Suzanne Ciani or Laurie Spiegel.

The evening is co-organised with Cinema Nova, followed by a discussion with Céline Gillain, Charo Calvo, Martino Morandi, Maud Seuntjens, moderated by: Julia Eckhardt
