‘Jan van Gorp’ consists of a series of compositions for the trio ‘Zinc & Copper Works’ and viola, starting from the sounds and gestures of Flemish dialects. Jan van Gorp (Johannes Goropius Becanus, 1519-1572) was a Dutch physician, linguist and humanist, who theorized that Antwerpian Flemish, or Brabantic, spoken in the region between the Scheld and Meuse Rivers, was the original language spoken in Paradise…In this Q-o2-period Hayward will work out his first compositions.
