Robin Hayward : Jan van Gorp
27/09/2008 - 15:00

During residencies at q-o2, tuba player and composer Robin Hayward wrote ‘Jan van Gorp’, a composition for his trio Zinc & Copper Works (horn, trombone and tuba), inspired by the theories of Jan van Gorp (1519-1572), a Dutch physician, linguist and humanist, who believed to have proved that Brabantic was the original language spoken in Paradise. The composition will draw on the sound of certain single-syllable Brabantic words that van Gorp used to support his theory. The aim is to translate into music the notion of searching for the sound of Paradise, along with some of the absurd logic and unforeseen associations brought about by the undertaking. Robin Hayward will finish the compositions with his trio, the creation will take place at the Musical instruments Museum.co-production: Musical instruments Museumcomposition with support of the Flemish Government
