Are you a musician with a connection to Molenbeek who is curious about improvisation? Are you interested in playing music together with others and would you like to get to know other musicians from the neighborhood in the context of a Molenbeek-based music festival?

On the 5th of March, you can join a 4 hour workshop at Q-O2 led by bass player Farida Amadou. She’ll guide you through a set of exercises for improvising together, exploring the musical capacities of each participant and the properties of their instruments and voices. The week after, on 12th March, you’ll perform together at Maison des Cultures Molenbeek during Musikaa, a Molenbeek-based music festival that takes place in the context of Klarafestival. The goal is to show the experiment to the audience and exchange with musicians from the neighbourhood.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for a wide variety of vocalists and musicians playing instruments from all over the world, ranging from acoustic to electronic. All levels welcome! Prior experience with free improvisation is not necessary.

This workshop is aimed at bringing musicians with different backgrounds and levels together and to create new connections between musicians from Molenbeek. The focus is on the joy of playing, exchange, listening and enjoying each other’s sounds.

Practical information

Sign up before the 20th of February! You’ll hear whether you’ve been selected for the workshop 2 days later. Selections are on a first come first served basis, keeping into account the diversity of instruments.

• You’re free to enjoy the other concerts and backstage catering during the course of the day.

If you take part in the workshop, you’re expected to join in for the concert.

The workshop will be held in French and English. We ask a small fee of 4 euros to cover the costs of catering.
