residency
05/12/2010 - 19/12/2010

Last year in November Els Viaene travelled to the Brazilian Amazon forest with a group of 6 people. It was anincredible journey through the abundant wildlife of this very unique landscape. An expedition in which herears became her eyes. A place where at times, the ‘natural’ became truly bizarre.Besides hours of sound recordings she also recorded the complete journey with a GPS device. Those twoelements form the bases for an interactive sound installation The Mamori Expedition. The recorded GPStracksare adjusted to the scale of the space. With the use of a special tool (a hydrophone) the visitor canmake his own walk through the forest. A first version of this installation was shown at Arts Centre Netwerk.During this residency Els Viaene will focus on the further development of hydrophones and a research of how topresent the auditive wildlife of the Amazon forest in a vertical perspective.
