Micaela Maia lives in Águeda and is an artist exploring the intersections between body, words, images and sounds since 2001. With acting as her background, she has lately focused on installation as principal medium. She has attended different drama colleges such as Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo (Oporto), Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema (Lisbon) and Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático (Madrid). She worked as a professional actress with different Portuguese theatre directors. She passed briefly through the contemporary dance scene in Oporto with Núcleo de Experimentação Coreográfica. She has worked in professional sound installation projects such as “What are the birds saying”, a project for a garden (2013) and “The love between us”, a community love stories collection (2015). She is currently attending a master program in Contemporary Art Creation in the Universidade de Aveiro, where she has developed several sound projects: “You may think that you are here, but you are not”, (2014), “The extremely sad man” (2015) and “Always look to the bright side of life” (2015).
