Carly Wijs (°1966) was born in Amsterdam but is living and working in Brussels. After graduating at the Maastricht Theatre Academy in 1990 she consecutively worked as a television, film and theatre actress. In 1992 she made her first appearance in Belgium with Dirk Roofthooft in Het liegen in ontbinding, directed by Guy Cassiers. Since 1993 Carly Wijs has been working with various Belgian companies, including Nederlands Toneel Gent, De Onderneming and De Roovers, featuring at the Kunstenfestivaldesarts several times, e.g. in RUHE (2007), ÜBUNG (2001) and Het Dikke Schrift (2000). To support her own creations, she established Exiles together with other artists, including dancer Rasmus Ölme. She is currently making a tour with Ultima Vez’ performance Bêt Noir. Carly Wijs is also lecturer at the Brussels based Rits and P.A.R.T.S.
