After more than 30 years of infinitely discrete electronic music, Eliane Radigue abandoned her cherished Arp 2500 synthesizer to devote herself entirely to acoustic composition.
Monumental in length (2h30) but delicate due to the acoustic treatment of the pulsing and murmuring sounds, Naldjorlak was conceived as a trilogy with incredibly subtle harmonics, sub-tones and partials interacting continuously. The piece was elaborated in close collaboration with three virtuoso musicians: cellist Charles Curtis and basset horn players Carol Robinson and Bruno Martinez.
The suspension of time, the dialog with eternity, the proximity to silence, an appeal to contemplation, and exceptional concentration... all that has characterized Eliane Radigue’s music since 1970, is now more relevant than ever. But, Naldjorlak takes her even further on her musical journey, because with these three performers, she has found the ideal means of coming ever closer to the “impalpable chimerical” music of her dreams. Eliane Radigue
Eliane Radigue (Paris) studied classical harp and piano, and electroacoustic music techniques at the same time. Her music, its source an Arp synthesizer and Tibetan Buddhism, attracted considerable attention for its sensitive, dappled purity. Very recently, in response to the demands of musicians worldwide, she has begun creating works for specific performers and instruments together with electronics. The most recently of these is 'Naldjorlak' for the American cellist Charles Curtis.

Charles Curtis (USA) became known during the 1980s all over the world as a performer of traditional cello repertoire, but at the same time he opened up new horizons,
amidst the downtown New York music scene, in the worlds of experimental rock and sound experiments.

Carol Robinson
Composer / Clarinetist
Carol Robinson combines a career as a clarinetist and a composer, performing in the most prestigious concert halls and festivals worldwide. Working closely with various composers, Giacinto Scelsi in particular, she has premiered numerous works (her discography includes monograph CDs by Scelsi, Nono, Feldman, Niblock and Berio, as well as classical and improvised music). Composition has become increasingly important. Her works can be heard in concert and on Radio France, the Lithuanian National Radio, the Hessischer Rundfunk, the Saarlandischer Rundfunk, ARTE… Blending acoustic sounds and electronics, her exploration of aleatory techniques has also lead her to prepare installations and more “environmental” music. She writes music for dance as well. Passionate about improvisation, she constantly seeks the most open musical situations and encounters.
