residency
23/05/2018 - 10/06/2018

Giulia Silvestri’s research starts from her personal experience with classical music. She played the piano and the violin for eight years in a serious ambience, which made her consider music only from a strictly technical view, imposing this approach also on other domains such as the visual arts one. After a few years of break, she restarts her studies in music by considering her experience as a sort of collapse which forcedly needed a recovery.

This residency investigation aims to explore the way we enjoy and we make use of music nowadays. How we interact with it, what playing and what listening mean, what a performance is. What being on stage means. The final goal is to make this personal experience become shareable and even pleasant for the public and to reach a new sensibleness of what we define performance. It’s a pure necessity of communication through which we could delete the barrier between musician and listener, as to create an experience whose involvement will be perceived at the same level.

Giulia Silverstri is currently living and working in Milan as sound engineering, at Teatro alla Scala.
