Sound and form

Edita Dermontaité focuses on art and research, interdisciplinary and in the past collaborated with scientists, illustrators, designers and architects. In 2016 she started PhD at KU Leuven/LUCA School of Arts, where she stresses the possibilities of multilayered thought, art process and production of an art work. Her project focuses on sound and form; urban soundscapes, their reconstruction and visibility. She uses audible data and its intrinsic temporality to explore time, space and place, remembrance and captures its existence by making it visible to the eye. For Edita sounds and their properties are inputs for theoretical discourses, visual experimentations and interpretations. The later are based on interconnections between zoomed in elements of sound, form and their meaning.

During the residency at Q-O2 Edita will focus on interconnections between audible data, their visual representation and vice versa. Edita intends to distinguish how these interconnections vary depending on the discipline that makes them. Therefore, she will collaborate with a several invited artists from different disciplines, namely design and music, in order to observe the shift of perspective and possible overlays. They will work in a form of a workshop and collaborative experimentation, which will result in creating an artwork in visual and audible form. After the residency Edita will organise a workshop/seminar/exhibition to disseminate the results, do address the public and to start a conversation between people from different backgrounds regarding the need for making interconnections between what is visual and audible and their possible uses.
